SEPANG, February 23, 2024 -- As AirAsia enters its final stretch with just three days remaining for its highly anticipated FREE* Seats campaign, the airline added one million promo seats due to increasing demand from travellers all over the region.

Launched earlier this week, the campaign has captivated wanderlust enthusiasts to embark on their journeys starting from just RM28 all-in* one-way to domestic hotspots within Malaysia such as Penang, Johor Bahru, Miri or expand their horizons to exotic Asean locales like Krabi, Bali, Medan from RM83 all-in* one-way.

For those with a penchant for off-the-beaten-path adventures, AirAsia is offering starting fares as low as RM299 all-in** one-way to a diverse range of destinations across Asia and beyond such as Almaty, Hangzhou, Delhi, Sydney and more.

Questions around this news

  1. When can travellers book and use the promotional seats?

The release says bookings were open for three more days from February 23, 2024. The travel period runs from September 1, 2024, through June 18, 2025. It lists the airasia Superapp and airasia.com as booking channels. The stated fares and offers are subject to additional terms and conditions.

  2. What does “FREE Seats” mean if travellers still pay fees?

In this campaign, “FREE Seats” refers to the flight’s base fare being waived. Travellers still pay airport tax and applicable fees. The release also notes that international all-in fares include items such as airport taxes, a regulatory fee, fuel surcharges and other applicable fees.

  3. What are ancillary services in airline promotions?

Ancillary services are optional products or services sold alongside the core flight, rather than the seat itself. Common examples include baggage allowances, priority boarding and airport services. The release describes discounts on Fast Pass and extra carry-on baggage as part of its promotional offerings.

  4. What is a fuel surcharge?

A fuel surcharge is an additional charge that an airline may apply to a ticket to help cover fuel-related costs. It is separate from the base fare and may be included in an advertised all-in fare, depending on the fare terms.

Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingam said: “Since the commencement of our first FREE* Seats campaign this year, we have witnessed an extraordinary response in the first 72 hours of the sale with the top destinations including Penang, Krabi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and more. This is a testament to the strong demand for tourism across Asean, and we are thrilled to be flying our guests to their dream destinations at a fraction of the cost. With an additional one million promo seats up for grabs starting today including for medium-haul flights to Melbourne, Taipei, Tokyo and more, we look forward to flying millions of guests in the coming months.”

With the clock ticking, travellers are encouraged to act fast and secure their seats for travel between 1 September 2024 and 18 June 2025. Bookings can be made through the airasia Superapp or airasia.com.

In addition, AirAsia is extending its promotional offerings to ancillary services, including a 20% discount on the Fast Pass and Xtra Carry-on baggage. Furthermore, BigPay cardholders in Malaysia can enjoy an extra RM10 off all AirAsia flights.

AirAsia FREE* Seats campaign has enabled travellers to experience the world affordably over the years. Under these promotional fares, the base fares of the flights are completely free* of charge and guests need to only pay for the airport tax and relevant fees.
