IWATA, December 26, 2023 -- Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) is pleased to announce that the Company has installed a 2,200kW-capacity solar power generation system ("mega solar") over the entire rooftop area of the factory building at its Fukuroi South Factory (located in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture). Operation has commenced on December 25, 2023.
A total of 4,650 panels of 475W solar panels (2,200kW) have been additionally installed. Solar panels have already been installed on the rooftops of the energy buildings at the Fukuroi South Factory in 2022; and the total power generation of 2,330kW will be the largest among the Yamaha Motor Group in Japan. The power generated will be used at the factory, and the surplus power will be transmitted to Yamaha's other business sites from 2025 via the power transmission and distribution network of the Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. The use of this surplus power adds to the CO₂ reduction effect while contributing to help in the prevention of global warming.
Yamaha Motor, in line with its Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, is working toward being carbon neutral* throughout all of its supply chains, including the company's business activities by 2050. This construction of large-scale solar power generation is one of the Company's efforts to achieve this target.

Questions around this news
What solar power capacity has been installed at the Fukuroi South Factory?
A 2,200-kilowatt solar power system was installed across the factory building’s rooftop, and it began operating on December 25, 2023. Together with panels previously installed on the site’s energy buildings, the factory’s total solar generation capacity is 2,330 kilowatts, which the release describes as the largest among the company group’s sites in Japan.
How will the factory use electricity generated by its solar panels?
The solar electricity will first be used at the Fukuroi South Factory. The release says surplus electricity is planned to be sent to the company’s other business sites from 2025 through the local power transmission and distribution network. It says using this surplus power is intended to add to the company’s CO₂ reduction efforts.
What is the company’s carbon-neutrality target?
The company says its Environmental Plan 2050 calls for carbon neutrality across its supply chains by 2050. The target includes emissions from the company’s own business activities as well as emissions beyond those activities. The release presents the large-scale solar installation as one measure supporting that goal.
How does a power transmission and distribution network move electricity?
Transmission networks carry electricity over longer distances from generators toward areas where it is needed. Distribution networks then deliver it to local users, such as factories and homes. Grid operators manage these connected systems and balance the flow of electricity, helping move power from one location to another while maintaining reliable service.
