BANGKOK, October 2, 2024 -- Thai AirAsia X (XJ) today successfully relocated its operations to AirAsia's largest hub in Thailand at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport, in its pursuit to provide better convenience and connectivity to travelers.

The relocation was marked with a welcome ceremony for guests arriving on flight XJ761 from Shanghai who were treated to a special celebration organised by Thai AirAsia X and supported by Don Mueang Airport and AOT Ground Aviation Services Co., Ltd. (AOTGA).

From today, Thai AirAsia X will be operating all outbound and inbound services from Bangkok-Don Mueang, providing greater connectivity and convenience for guests travelling onto other Thai AirAsia or AirAsia Group services from the same airport.

Questions around this news

  1. Where did Thai AirAsia X relocate its Bangkok operations?

The airline moved all of its inbound and outbound services to Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, effective October 1, 2024. Its passengers can check in at counters 6 and 7 on Level 3 of International Departure Terminal 1. The release says the move is intended to improve convenience and connections with other Thai AirAsia and AirAsia Group services at the same airport.

  2. When and where can passengers check in for Thai AirAsia X flights at Don Mueang?

The release places the airline’s check-in counters at counters 6 and 7 on Level 3 of Don Mueang Airport’s International Departure Terminal 1. Those counters open three hours before each flight. Passengers can also check in ahead of time through the AirAsia MOVE app or airasia.com.

  3. Which Thai AirAsia domestic routes will still operate from Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Four Thai AirAsia domestic routes will continue to operate from Suvarnabhumi Airport while also being available from Don Mueang: Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and Hat Yai. The announcement distinguishes these routes from Thai AirAsia X services, which it says moved to Don Mueang.

  4. What does an airport hub mean for airline passengers?

An airport hub is a base where an airline concentrates flights and passenger connections. Travelers may use it to transfer between flights, including services operated by the same airline group. Whether a hub makes a particular journey more convenient depends on the available routes, schedules, airport layout and connection arrangements.

Thai AirAsia X guests can proceed to check in at counters 6 and 7 on Level 3 at the international Departure Terminal 1 of Don Mueang Airport. Check-in counters open three hours before each flight and for added convenience, guests are also encouraged to check-in in advance through the AirAsia MOVE mobile app and airasia.com.

While all Thai AirAsia X will operate from DMK airport as of 1 October 2024, four Thai AirAsia (FD) domestic routes will continue to operate out of Suvarnabhumi Airport while also being available from Don Mueang. The routes are to Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and Hat Yai.
