Clean TeQ Water Achieves Practical Completion at Heathgate Uranium Processing Plant

  • 2 min read
  • Clean TeQ Water

In brief

Clean TeQ Water says it has completed performance testing and commissioning of a uranium-processing plant for Heathgate Resources in South Australia. The project, contracted in 2023, supplied a CLEAN-IX U-Column system and related equipment using the company’s Moving Bed Ion Exchange technology. According to Clean TeQ Water, final tests met or exceeded key criteria, including uranium eluate grade and purity, water use and operational efficiency. The plant has moved from engineering into operational deployment within Heathgate’s in-situ recovery operations. The company says the installation provides a reference for future uranium-processing projects and demonstrates its MBIX platform’s applicability to other metals. CEO Peter Voigt described the project as evidence of the platform’s potential, while noting the importance of uranium supply and environmental and water stewardship.

Key takeaways

  • Clean TeQ Water completed testing and commissioning of a uranium-processing plant for Heathgate Resources in South Australia.

February 25, 2026 -- Clean TeQ Water Achieves Practical Completion at Heathgate Uranium Processing Plant

Clean TeQ Water has successfully completed performance testing and commissioning of the CLEAN-IX® U-Column uranium processing plant for Heathgate Resources in South Australia.

Delivered under a contract awarded in 2023, the project involved the supply of a CLEAN-IX® U-Column system and associated equipment based on Clean TeQ Water’s Moving Bed Ion Exchange (MBIX) technology.

Final performance testing confirmed that all key criteria were met or exceeded, including:

  • Improved uranium eluate grade and purity
  • Reduced water consumption
  • Increased operational efficiency

The plant has now transitioned from detailed engineering through to full operational deployment within Heathgate’s in-situ recovery (ISR) operations.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Client: Heathgate Resources

Location: South Australia

Application: Uranium ISR processing

Technology: CLEAN-IX® U-Column (MBIX platform)

Scope: Design, supply and commissioning

Status: Operational

Outcomes: Higher eluate grade, reduced water use, improved efficiency

Designed for ISR processing

Moving Bed Ion Exchange (MBIX) is well suited to ISR operations, delivering higher uranium tenor while minimising water use, supporting both operating efficiency and sustainability outcomes.

The CLEAN-IX® U-Column incorporates a process configuration specifically optimised for uranium recovery, reflecting the flexibility of Clean TeQ Water’s MBIX platform in accommodating site-specific metallurgical requirements. That same platform architecture supports application across a broader range of critical metals, including rare earth elements, base metals and lithium, with modular design and chemical selectivity enabling tailored recovery solutions across diverse ore bodies and process streams.

Heathgate is Australia’s leader in responsible and innovative uranium mining, powering a cleaner energy world, operating in-situ recovery (ISR) mining with a strong focus on environmental performance. The successful delivery and commissioning of the Heathgate plant strengthens Clean TeQ Water’s track record in uranium processing and provides a reference installation for future projects in Australia and internationally.

“Heathgate is more than a completed project for us, it is proof that our MBIX platform is built for the new energy era,” says Clean TeQ Water CEO Peter Voigt.

“As electricity demand accelerates, driven by electrification, decarbonisation and the rapid growth of AI infrastructure, secure uranium supply is becoming increasingly strategic. This project demonstrates that Clean TeQ can deliver scalable, disciplined processing solutions that strengthen energy security while upholding strong environmental and water stewardship standards.”

Questions around this news

  1. What was completed at the Heathgate uranium processing plant?

Clean TeQ Water completed commissioning and performance testing of a uranium processing plant for Heathgate Resources in South Australia. The project included supplying a U-Column system and related equipment. The release says the facility has moved into operational deployment as part of Heathgate’s in-situ recovery operations.

  2. What results did testing confirm at the plant?

The release says testing met or exceeded all key performance criteria. The reported outcomes were improved uranium eluate grade and purity, lower water consumption, and increased operational efficiency. It does not provide specific measurements for these results.

  3. How does in-situ recovery work in uranium mining?

In-situ recovery extracts uranium by circulating a solution through an underground ore-bearing formation, where it dissolves uranium. The uranium-bearing solution is then brought to the surface for processing. This approach avoids conventional excavation of the ore, though its suitability depends on geological and environmental conditions.

  4. What other materials can the platform be used to process?

The release says the platform can be adapted for recovery of rare earth elements, base metals, and lithium, as well as uranium. It describes modular design and chemical selectivity as features that allow processing solutions to be tailored to different ore bodies and process streams.
