KUALA LUMPUR, September 19, 2023 -- UMW Holdings Berhad (“UMW”), in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (“DBP”), introduced e-Puisi, an e-learning module on poetry which is an innovative online learning platform for students or beginners to learn poetry composition and delivery techniques through an easy to understand and flexible learning process.

The launch of e-Puisi was held yesterday at DBP and was officiated by Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali, Director-General, Ministry of Education, who represented YB Puan Fadhlina Sidek, Minister of Education. Also present at the event were Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President & Group CEO, UMW Holdings Berhad, Dato’ Dr Mohd Anuar Rethwan, Chairman of the Board of DBP and Dr Hazami Jahari, Director General, DBP.

The printed learning module on poetry was developed by DBP leveraging on its subject matter experts on Puisi and UMW adapted the e-Puisi into an easy to understand and flexible learning process on an e-platform to enable a wider reach to students and those who are interested to learn more about the art of poetry composition and delivery. The e-Puisi was developed by UMW Training Academy in collaboration with DBP. It consists of two segments, namely, poetry composition and poetry delivery techniques, and can be accessed through https://jendeladbp.my/ and https://www.umw.com.my/web/guest/kelab-kreatif-umw. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education also disseminate the e-learning link to students at schools and public institutions of higher learning, respectively.

The UMW Group's involvement in this programme is in line with its corporate social responsibility to promote arts and literature as one of the national heritage as an integral part of nation building initiative. It is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Article 11.4 to “Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.”

To support the UMW Group’s commitment in promoting poetry, Kelab Kreatif UMW was formed in 2021. It has conducted more than 30 activities to date, from organising basic poetry writing workshops to national-level primary and secondary schools poetry recitation contest, as well as World Poetry Convention. Kelab Kreatif UMW worked closely with UMW Training Academy in developing e-Puisi.

Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, “We are honoured to collaborate with DBP to launch this innovative e-learning module on poetry with the objective of cultivating interest among the younger generation in the art of poetry composition and delivery in order to position poetry as one of our national arts and culture heritage. With the innovative e-Puisi, we believe it will have a wider and more effective reach to our society. We would like to express our utmost appreciation to the teams at DBP and UMW for making this e-learning platform a reality.”
