September 9, 2024 -- The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has been recognised as a “Manpower Developer” (MD) by the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) for the tenth consecutive year. This year, Towngas has been further honoured with the prestigious “Super MD” award, acknowledging the Company’s outstanding efforts in talent training and development.
Towngas offers a diverse range of business operations and job roles, supporting this with an array of training programmes. These include the Towngas Leadership Competence Accelerated Programme (TLC+ Programme) and the Group Managerial Staff Development Programme. The Company also encourages and subsidises employees to pursue professional diplomas, bachelor’s and master’s degree courses, promoting sustainable career development.
To nurture talent across various levels, Towngas organises multiple apprenticeship schemes, such as the technician trainee programme, summer internship programme, and the Career in a Nutshell programme. Since 2019, Towngas has been a keen supporter of the ERB’s “Post-50 Internship Programme”, offering four-week internships to individuals aged 50 or above. This initiative helps participants understand current workplace dynamics, develop essential skills, and adjust their mindset for re-entering the job market. To date, Towngas has employed nine “post-50” interns across various departments, including the Towngas Cooking Centre and the Customer Installation & Enquiries Department.
The ERB Manpower Developer Award Scheme aims to commend organisations that excel in talent training and development. Commenting on Towngas’s decade-long recognition as a “Manpower Developer” and its elevation to “Super MD” status, Mr Lam Ming-wing, Towngas Head of Group Human Resources and Head of Group Safety and Environment, said he was honoured by the recognition, “We are committed to supporting diverse talent training and development, fostering an inclusive work environment that allows our colleagues to realise their potential and excel. This not only helps them build their careers but also cultivates more professionals for the energy sector.” Towngas pledges to continue investing resources to enhance the quality of its human resources and provide superior services to the public.
