Showcasing TOPPAN’s global supply chain and high-value-added packaging at leading international event for the pharmaceutical sector
Tokyo, Japan, October 22, 2025 -- TOPPAN Inc. (TOPPAN), a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (TYO: 7911), will participate for the first time in CPHI Frankfurt 2025, one of the world’s leading events for pharmaceutical ingredients and the pharmaceutical industry, which will take place from October 28 to 30 in Frankfurt, Germany.

CPHI Frankfurt 2025 is the 36th CPHI event. The showcase is held in a different host city every year and attracted 2,838 companies and more than 58,600 visitors to Milan in 2024.
At this year’s event, TOPPAN will be displaying a wide range of the TOPPAN Group’s packaging solutions for the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, including polypropylene (PP)-based mono-material lidding material for push-through blister packs1, pharmaceutical inks, transparent high barrier packaging, and sustainable packaging. TOPPAN’s high-value-added products respond to diverse needs, from eco-friendliness and advanced barrier performance to streamlining of manufacturing processes.
TOPPAN’s booth will introduce the latest healthcare and pharmaceutical packaging technologies from TOPPAN Group manufacturing sites in China, Poland, and other locations around the world, as well as an expanding international network that supports global supply chain capabilities to ensure stable and rapid provision of high-quality pharmaceutical packaging.
TOPPAN’s GL BARRIER2 is a brand that enjoys a leading share of the global market for transparent barrier films. The booth will present GL BARRIER’s core proprietary technologies and vertically-integrated supply capabilities connecting film manufacturing to package converting facilities, allowing TOPPAN to flexibly meet the needs of its customers and offer high-quality packaging solutions that contribute to the global pharmaceutical sector.
Main Solutions on Show
・Mono-material PP lidding material for push-through blister packs
TOPPAN is developing a PP-based film for push-through packs, providing push-through and sealing performance to rival that of aluminum foil. Barrier performance is also enabled by incorporating the TOPPAN Group’s barrier vapor deposition technology. Combination with a PP sheet for push-through blisters will facilitate mono-material packaging that meets quality requirements for pharmaceutical products in terms of printability and sealing performance.

1. Push-through blister packs are packaging in sheet form in which tablets are sandwiched between materials such as plastic and aluminum.
2. GL BARRIER is TOPPAN’s proprietary brand of transparent film products that deliver world-class barrier performance. Stable performance is enabled by a multi-layer structure combining a unique coating layer with a high-quality vapor-deposited layer. In recognition of their numerous outstanding features, GL BARRIER products are used in a wide variety of fields, including the food, healthcare/pharmaceutical, and industrial materials sectors. Combining the functions of the printing and barrier substrate layers into a single layer provides an alternative to aluminum foil with a streamlined layer structure.

Questions around this news
What packaging solutions will TOPPAN present at CPHI Frankfurt 2025?
TOPPAN says its display will include polypropylene-based lidding for push-through blister packs, pharmaceutical inks, transparent high-barrier packaging and sustainable packaging. Other featured items include all-polypropylene sticks, sachets and blister outer packaging, all-polyolefin packaging made with in-house metallized film, and low-adsorption packaging for adhesive patches. The company will also present technologies and supply capabilities from its international manufacturing network.
What is mono-material packaging, and why is it used?
Mono-material packaging is made primarily from one type of material, rather than combining layers of different materials. This can make packaging easier to sort and recycle where suitable collection and recycling systems exist. In pharmaceutical packaging, the material still needs to meet requirements such as protecting product quality, providing an effective seal and allowing the package to be opened as intended.
What does high-barrier packaging do?
High-barrier packaging is designed to limit the passage of substances such as moisture, oxygen or other gases through its structure. This can help protect the contents from environmental exposure. The barrier level needed depends on the product and its storage requirements; packaging designs may use coatings, deposited layers or multiple materials to achieve the desired protection.
What does TOPPAN say its low-adsorption packaging is designed to do?
TOPPAN says its booth will feature packaging for adhesive patches that uses a proprietary low-adsorption sealant. The company states that this packaging is intended to help maintain pharmaceutical quality. The release does not provide performance measurements or further technical details about the sealant, so its stated purpose is the basis for describing the offering.
