Bangkok, Thailand, October 23, 2025 -- Land and Houses Bank Public Company Limited (LH Bank) continues to drive sustainable finance by providing a Green Loan facility worth THB 650 million to Thai AirAsia for the purchase of an Airbus A320-251N (neo) aircraft, known for its fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

Mr. Mark Chen, Chief Business Banking Officer, LH Bank, said the Bank is pleased to extend a THB 650 million Green Loan to Thai AirAsia for the acquisition of an Airbus A320-251N neo aircraft. The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, lower fuel costs, and concretely reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

“This loan reflects LH Bank’s strong commitment to supporting environmentally responsible projects that promote sustainable growth,” he added.

Mr. Pairach Pornpatanangkool, Chief Financial Officer, Thai AirAsia Co., Ltd., said, “The Green Loan support from LH Bank enables Thai AirAsia, the leading airline in Thailand with the highest domestic market share, to advance our investment plan and fleet modernisation with next-generation Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. These models offer 15–20% better fuel efficiency per flight compared to previous generations and can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 5,000 tonnes per aircraft per year.”

“Thai AirAsia remains committed to developing a responsible and sustainable aviation business, balancing operational efficiency, cost management, and long-term environmental stewardship. This marks another significant step toward becoming a truly eco-friendly airline,” he concluded.

Questions around this news

  1. What is a green loan?

A green loan is financing intended for projects or activities that provide environmental benefits. Its terms may require the borrower to use the funds for an eligible purpose and report on their use or environmental outcomes. Eligibility criteria and reporting requirements vary by lender and loan framework.

  2. What is LH Bank financing for Thai AirAsia?

The release says LH Bank is providing Thai AirAsia with a THB 650 million green loan to acquire an Airbus A320-251N neo aircraft. It describes the financing as part of support for sustainable projects and says the aircraft purchase is intended to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel costs and carbon dioxide emissions.

  3. How much more fuel-efficient are the aircraft models mentioned in the announcement?

Thai AirAsia’s chief financial officer said the next-generation A320neo and A321neo aircraft offer 15–20% better fuel efficiency per flight than previous generations. The release also attributes an estimated reduction of approximately 5,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per aircraft per year to these models.

  4. How can improved fuel efficiency reduce an airline’s environmental impact?

An aircraft that uses less fuel for a flight can generally produce fewer carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion, all else being equal. The actual impact depends on factors such as aircraft operations, flight distance, passenger or cargo loads, and the fuel used; efficiency improvements do not by themselves eliminate aviation emissions.
