Questions around this news

  1. What did Indorama Ventures do at 808 Festival 2024?

The company supplied festivalgoers with PET water bottles made using recycled resin and set up a designated area and drop points for collecting used bottles. On-site staff encouraged attendees to separate and recycle their waste. The collected bottles were sent to a recycling plant, where they were processed into recycled PET for use in new bottles.

  2. How does closed-loop PET recycling work?

In closed-loop recycling, used products are collected and processed into material that can be used to make the same type of product again. For PET bottles, the process generally involves sorting and cleaning the bottles, then processing the material into recycled PET. The material can be made into new bottles, though recycling processes and material quality vary.

  3. Where were the festival's collected PET bottles taken?

The release says the collected bottles were transported to the company’s PET recycling plant in Nakhon Pathom. There, they were processed into recycled PET resin as part of the festival’s bottle-to-bottle recycling initiative. The release describes this as completing the circular-economy model for the bottles collected at the event.

  4. What does rPET mean?

rPET stands for recycled polyethylene terephthalate. It is material made by reprocessing used PET products, such as beverage bottles, for use in new products. Its suitability depends on factors including how well the material is collected, sorted and processed, as well as the requirements of the intended application.
