-- Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd proudly announces its achievements at the prestigious ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2023, held on 25 August 2023, in Bali, Indonesia. Demonstrating unwavering commitment to energy efficiency and responsible practices, IWK has secured both the first and second runner-up positions for the coveted Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Award in the Energy Management in Small and Medium Industries Category.
The awards celebrated IWK's achievements in two of its exemplary projects, namely the Klang-Selatan Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and the Butterworth-South Regional Sewage Treatment Plant (RSTP). This recognition demonstrates IWK's relentless pursuit of excellence in sustainable energy management exemplified by the combination of energy management, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
The AEA awards were presented during the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting. Represented by Ir. Hussain Omar, Head of Operations and Maintenance Department, and Mr. Isman Shariff, Head of Operations of the Klang Office, IWK received the awards from Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, Brunei Darussalam.
IWK’s endeavours in advancing sustainable energy practices was earlier recognised in the National Energy Award (NEA) 2023, organised annually by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC). IWK secured the title of winner and runner-up in the Energy Management in Small and Medium Industries Category for its Klang-Selatan RSTP and the Butterworth-South RSTP respectively. Building on this accomplishment, both projects were subsequently selected by the NEA panel of judges to represent Malaysia at AEA 2023.
“We are truly honoured to have our efforts acknowledged on such esteemed platforms such as the AEA 2023 and NEA 2023. The dual recognition is a testament to the dedication and innovative spirit of our team at IWK. This inspires us to sustain our commitment while innovating in sustainable practices, encouraging broader adoption of responsible and environmentally-conscious approaches,” said Chief Executive Officer of IWK, Narendran Maniam.
Through the successful implementation of energy-efficient practices, IWK not only advances its economic goals but reinforces its dedication to environmental sustainability, in line with the circular economy approach.
IWK's dedication to optimizing energy usage, curbing waste, and reducing operational expenses through data-driven strategies, technological upgrades, and integration of renewable energy sources, has earned them recognition both nationally and regionally within ASEAN.
With a network spanning over 7,000 sewage treatment plants (STPs) across Malaysia, IWK's commitment to excellence and sustainability remains steadfast. IWK will continue to embrace best practices and adopt sustainable strategies across its diverse range of sewage treatment plants to provide environmentally-conscious sewerage services for Malaysia.
