BANGKOK, September 10, 2025 -- Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL., welcomed executives from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and representatives from Bangpoo Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) to Delta Bangpu Area 3 for strategic discussions on electricity supply planning and infrastructure development. The meeting focused on ensuring reliable power to support Delta’s major new expansion in Bangpoo, which will significantly increase the company’s electricity demand over the next few years. By engaging directly with MEA, Delta is reinforcing its commitment to secure energy resilience, operational excellence, and sustainable growth in Thailand’s industrial sector.

The event was attended by seventeen representatives from MEA, two delegates from Bangpoo IEAT, and fifteen Delta staff members. Key executives included Mr. Victor Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL; Mr. Jackie Chang, Chief Operating Officer and President of Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL and Mr. Rachain Unwet, Assistant to the Governor of MEA.

Delta presented its forecast for power requirements at the new expansion site, which are projected to rise to 81.7 megawatts by 2027. This marks a significant increase compared with the original four megawatts required for Delta Bangpu Area 3 and Delta Research & development 1. The anticipated growth at the new expansion site in Bangpu, representing nearly twenty times higher demand within the next two to three years, emphasizes the need for secure and well-planned energy infrastructure.

MEA outlined both immediate and long-term measures to address Delta’s requirements. In the short term, existing infrastructure and transmission lines will be optimized through load bypass solutions to support demand within this year. For the longer term, MEA will implement transmission system upgrades, including a dedicated line to Delta’s new site, within one to three years. These measures are designed to provide reliability and capacity for Delta’s operations as the company expands its production capabilities.

The meeting also included an exchange of technical expertise. Delta introduced its energy storage and microgrid solutions, which are under consideration by MEA as part of ongoing studies into energy storage system integration for future infrastructure enhancements. This knowledge sharing reflects the alignment of both organizations in advancing sustainable and resilient energy systems.

As a result of the discussions, MEA is planning to begin load switching to support Delta Bangpu Area 6 to Bangpu Area 7 operations by the third quarter of 2025. Delta’s Delta Bangpu Area 2 team will also continue working with MEA on preparations for high-power products that are scheduled to be transferred to the expanded site.

This collaboration represents an important milestone in strengthening Delta’s energy resilience and ensuring that its expansion in Bangpoo is supported by a reliable, forward-looking power infrastructure. By working with MEA, Delta is reinforcing its operational excellence, securing business continuity, and advancing long-term sustainability goals.

Questions around this news

  1. How much electricity is Delta’s Bangpoo expansion expected to require?

Delta presented a forecast showing that the new expansion site’s power requirements are projected to reach 81.7 megawatts by 2027. The release compares this with an original requirement of four megawatts for Delta Bangpu Area 3 and Delta Research & Development 1, and describes the expected demand as nearly twenty times higher within the next two to three years.

  2. What power infrastructure measures is MEA planning for the expansion?

For near-term needs, MEA plans to optimize existing infrastructure and transmission lines through load bypass solutions to support demand within the year. Longer term, it plans transmission system upgrades, including a dedicated line to the new site, within one to three years. The release also says MEA planned to begin load switching for Area 6 to Area 7 operations by the third quarter of 2025.

  3. What is a load bypass solution?

A load bypass solution reroutes electrical demand around a component or section of a power system, often so equipment can be maintained or a constraint can be managed while service continues. The precise arrangement depends on the network. In this release, the term refers to a short-term measure involving existing infrastructure and transmission lines.

  4. What are energy storage systems and microgrids?

An energy storage system captures electricity for use later, helping balance supply and demand or provide backup power. A microgrid is a localized network of electricity sources and loads that can operate alongside the wider grid and, if designed to do so, separately from it. Storage can be one component of a microgrid.
