Questions around this news

  1. What payment options will be available for flight bookings through the partnership?

The release says customers will be able to book flights and add-ons through the airline’s app and pay using the bank’s payment gateway. The options are described as covering card schemes and KHQR. The partners also say the service is intended to support in-flight transactions, though the release does not specify which payment methods will be available for those transactions.

  2. What role will Oriental Bank play in processing payments for the airline in Cambodia?

The release says the airline signed a Merchant Service Agreement with Oriental Bank, which will serve as its main payment processing provider in Cambodia. Separately, the partners announced plans to let customers use the bank’s payment gateway when booking flights and add-ons. The release does not provide details about fees, settlement arrangements or the agreement’s duration.

  3. What is a payment gateway?

A payment gateway is technology that securely transmits payment information between a customer, a merchant and the systems that authorize or process a transaction. It can support different payment methods, such as cards or digital payment services. A gateway helps connect the checkout experience to the relevant payment networks, but it is not necessarily the bank that issues a customer’s card.

  4. What is KHQR?

KHQR is a standardized QR code payment format used in Cambodia. A customer can scan a merchant’s QR code with a compatible banking or payment app to initiate a payment. Standardized QR formats can help different participating payment services work with the same code, subject to the services and institutions supported.
